6D 2018 - 2019

Miss Davies

Welcome to 6D

This term our topic is 'Blitz, Bombs and Little Boys and we will be finding out what it was like to be a British child during World War 2.  In terms of our novel, we are studying 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' by John Boyne and the children seem very keen to find out what will happen in each new chapter.

Please ensure your child reads every night and completes their reading record. It doesn't necessarily have to be their reading book from school, a book from home, a newspaper, even a recipe book will do... just as long as they are reading something!  Look out for our new 'Book Bingo' charts that have been attached to the back of your child's reading record.  Reading each night will help your child achieve more points for their team in the reading competition...and may even earn them a treat at the end of the week!

Children must ensure their kit is in school at all times for PE.  PE kits can be taken home every half term for washing.  At present our PE slot is on Thursday afternoon.

Homework will be set every other Friday and will take the form of a Learning Log linked to our topic.  The children will need to complete two pages of their Learning Log, but can choose how they wish to present their work...written information, drawings, tables collages or models or even a combination of these can be used...the only limit is your child's imagination!

Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested the following Monday.  As you will see, we are trying to encourage all children across school to use our new style of cursive writing but we appreciate this could be more difficult for Year 6 children who are likely to have established their own handwriting style by now.
