2G Autumn 1 Week 5

Date: 5th Oct 2018 @ 8:25am

This week we have really been focussing on reading. A huge thank you to everyone who is reading at home with their child, I really do appreciate it. Just a reminder that reading needs only be a couple of pages if you have a busy evening. I do not expect children to finish a complete book every night - if they want to, GREAT! Reading at home every night is the only expectation we have for homework in KS1. It really does make a difference so thank you again!

Reading sticks: You've probably heard about them! The children get a reading stick every time they have read. If they get 5 in one week they get 15 mins on Monday on the KS1 climbing frame. The children are still deciding what their prize should be if they get 10 weeks of 5 reading sticks!

We have new reading characters in school to help the children learn reading strategies. If you would like a copy of these please pop in and see me. The children are 'collecting' these characters and receive a character sticker every time they master the reading strategy.

I have also sent home copies of The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. We have now finished this book and these should be returned when they have been read at home - no time limit! The children were very excited to receive these!

Also look out for the new reading certificates. These will be given each week to children who have really impressed their teacher with reading.
