Reading

At Larkfield Primary school we believe that reading is an essential life skill and we are committed to enabling our children to become passionate, lifelong readers.
 
At the core of our reading strategy is our drive to foster a love of reading. Engaging reading areas throughout the school, encourage our children to curl up with a good book and immerse themselves in high quality texts. Visiting authors, book fairs and participation in national reading events are thoroughly enjoyed by all the children and staff.
 
We recognise the importance of a consistent approach to the teaching of reading and all staff are trained to deliver Sounds-Write (systematic synthetic phonics programme) and Hooked on Books (reading comprehension) from EYFS to Year 6.
 
All children at Larkfield Primary have the opportunity to become fluent, confident readers that can use the reading tools taught to gain new knowledge and become independent, successful learners.
